Week 9

24/08/2013 - 25/08/2013
Friday i ask my teammates to gather at IIS in the morning so we can move the boat back to my place so i can paint it. So we meet up at IIS and Leon is sick during that time but he also turn up to help us. We carry the boat all the way from College to Pjs9. I feel so lucky that my house is near to the college. When we arrive at my place we all already cover with sweat.

I bought some paint at Friday. and i start to polish the surface of the boat with sandpaper before i apply paint on it. Show the picture below show some of the progress i did for these few day. I use almost one day to polish the surface then apply a layer of white color paint on it and let dry. And this basically what i did during the weekend.

25/08/2013 - 26/08/2013

Kah Suit bring the extension box to me today. So i can start to paint on it .

After class i ask my team mate to come over my place so that i can check on their progress and then i continue paint my boat again.  After painting the boat, i help on design to create some of graphic that are need i also ask Leon to find more free vector design so that we can use in the animation.

I tell Gerry and Kah Suit how animation need to be animate. Then i created the hunter to show hunter hunting animal.

I also created a jetty for the Boat to land for the ending.

After check on the design that Kah Suit share on Facebook, i create a vector design of how it should be layer and upload to facebook to show Kah Suit.

I also find some of the city scene free vector i search online for Kah Suit. So she just need to apply texture and some colors.

At the meanwhile, Leon are helping Kah Suit to find more free vector so we can faster our progress. 

27/08/2013

After painting for the last three days, the paint is kind of not enough so during the break i bought some more white paint and some blue paint for the highlight. After class, we all gather at my place to boost our work. I continue on my boat so that it be exhibit tomorrow. Kah Suit was trying to finish up the design so that gerry are able to finish the second part of the animation.

Since Leon is almost done with his part i ask him to help Kah Suit to collect more city since photo since the City scene is still in progress.

After making sure everyone is doing their work, i went back to painting and fixing the boat. I double check every single part of the boat to check where are the spot that i miss out during my last painting. 

Before i came back i bought some mounting board to create a new slanted box for the projector since the previous is still not that steady.

After that i start painting on the boat again and the paddle with first layer then i apply another layer for the boat. After the boat dry i use ruler to measure and mark the size for the highlight that i am going to paint in blue. I use masking tape to separate the part to make sure that i will not paint out of line.

Then i still left a paddle to make but is hard to find wood now. So i ask Leon to help me buy a clipping board to clip paper that make of board. Then i break my broom stick then i modify by using sandpaper , saw and hammer. I spend quite sometime here finding people to borrow equipment and sawing the wood.

When i almost finish that i realised the time is kind of late already so i tell them to go back their house to do. Since Leon just recover. Since Kah Suit and Gerry said that they still left some part not done so i ask them to discuss on Facebook. Then i continue on my boat painting apply another layer of white color to make it look glossy. 

Due to the wire's holes that i give to Kah Suit father is too small so i ask Kah Suit to borrow one electric drill from her father so that i can make it bigger. So i drill some of the holes to make it double the size.

While waiting for it to dry i create a box for the flex sensor to hide it so that it can merge with the boat. So i measure the size and use the leftover of the mounting board to create the box.

After finish this, i find gerry to test it out with the boat and it turn out just nice. then i continue to touch up the boat and when i finish is almost 3 am. After taking a shower i check out how my group progress. At that time the design almost finish just left animation. But gerry already slept, i think he will wake up to do so i trust him and i continue on checking and refining the proposal and what are the thing i will need to do during the beta test.

I list down a list just in case:

1. Create new infographic
2. Proposal
3. Survey form
4. buy masking tape for wiring 
5. bring tina and drill just in case the projector cable cannot fit.

Week 8

17/08/2013

Today, after doing some other assignment I continue to find more free vector from internet to save time from tracing and ask which one Kah Suit will like to use so that i trace it and separate it into piece so is easier to animate it. 

And this the some of the posts i posted in facebook.

Kah Suit also facebook chat me how big is the size for the projector so that his father can make the stand for the projector. So i find the measurement of a projector and show it to Kah Suit. And her give make a slightly larger size just in case that size no accurate.

20/08/2013

Today morning Kah Suit told me that the boat will be arrived but not sure what is the time. So I need to inform Fiona so that i can carry the boat and put it into the IIS. Around 1 o'clock the boat arrive and Kah Suit told me to go down and carry the boat. So i ask a flavor from June to help me contact Fiona because is kind of emergency because i cant contact Fiona from the office. I rush to unload the boat from the lorry and carry it to IIS room waiting for Fiona to open. Luckily Fiona turn up just in time. After we place the boat into IIS i realise we are lack of one thing, the boat paddle. So i don't want give more trouble to Kah Suit's father so i plan to make it myself. After class we meet up in IIS room and show the boat to the group member. The boat turn up very nice and what i need to do is to paint it.

After checking the boat, we continue to do the design part. So that Gerry create the animation. I refine the lumberman the Leon create and help separate the part for the bird i early so Gerry is able to animate it. Beside that i also use the information that Leon find and summaries it to become infographic.

21/08/2013
Due to last week we didnt show much during the alpha test, we kind redo the alpha test today. As usual we meet up early in IIS room, and before that i get keys from IT department then start to set up the equipment and the placement of boat. Due to we got a boat so need to find the correct placement and setup the projector to make sure the size is correct. After i place the boat then we set up the projector and call Gerry sit in the boat since he is the tallest in our class and the result show that the bottom part of the projection is blocked by Gerry's head. Then i try to find a way to make it higher so we temporarily find a chair to make it higher until we get the height. So I mark down the height of the chair and ask whether Kah Suit can ask her father to do us flavor to create the extension box. Kah Suit called and she said that her sister will pick it up when she came back to subang. Beside that i need to create a slanted box for the projector show it can shoot at the eyes level. After making down everything we try to connect to gerry computer and project on the wall then i call gerry to connect the arduino so that we can test it whether it work or not.


As the lecturer arrived we show our group progress. We let the lecturer to try to sit on the boat and test the eyes level. Then i show them how we control the animation. Lecturers see the chair and ask us why. And i tell them the reason and how i solve it. 

Then i show the infographic that i have done and i got some feedback base on the font and all capital letter is hard for user to read and can include some photo inside and the color can try to match the design.

Jazmi also ask me to find out the best way to hide the cable and decorate the boat because the boat wood doesn't look that nice. I told him that i am actually planning move the boat back to my place and paint it. 

Then we continue show our progress. And the lecturer ask everyone of us to write down our own progress and show how much progress we still left and how much time we still need to complete our own department work. 

As a leader i need to write out the team progress and the solution and time slot to finish before beta test. So i write every possibility and problem we are going to solve as group and submit for check and sign. 

Beside that, we need a long wire for arduino and we ask Wilson team whether they have extra and we took some from his team. And since they are soldering there, we also borrow the soldering equipment that they borrow from Jam from MM department. I start to solder the wires to the flex sensor so it is longer. After finish soldering we test it again just in case the flex sensor is not broken and it turn out ok.  I also ask flavor from jeremy whether her mom have extra white cloth so that we use during the beta test. And he say he will get back to me on Friday.

And basically this is what i did today and i ask my team to follow the schedule they set and make sure they post their progress on group and ask them to ask for help if they need.

Today i emailed Fiona to tell him that i will like to access to IIS at Saturday, so that i can move the boat back to my place so that i can paint the boat. During dinner class, i went to pyramid to buy some paint, brush and sandpaper so that i can paint the boat Saturday. Jeremy also reply me that the cloth is available and ask me about the measurement and i base on the boat's measurement and gave him the measurement.

Week 7

12/08/2013 - 13/08/2013 
Kah Suit pass me the arduino during the class so that i can take of it. I emailed our lecturer Jazmi to borrow the cable for kinect camera and he replied that he will bring it during the class and we need to pay him deposit and he will give us back the money when we return the cable. We gather again a day right before alpha to check up the progress. I also make a call to MM department so that we can meet up with Jam during wednesday class.

I start to worry about the progress since they didn't post much update beside leon. Kah Siut started on the graphic but the artstyle that being apply needed a lot of time to just finish on graphic. At another side, Gerry (technical) had source out the coding for flash. And i ask him to try animate with some object. So Gerry and i starting to find out how to animate object so that the code and trigger it easily so we kind done a prototype to test during the alpha test. 

Then i help out Kah Suit on creating the animal in the jungle so that she concentrate on designing the forest scene. I spend around 2 hours plus to create these animal. As for the tiger i download the free vector from internet and break it into part so that it is easier to animate. As for orangutan and rhino i trace it from the reference i found before.

I aslo trace out this tractor and upload it to facebook at 1am.

14/09/2013
I gather them to come to IIS 10am in the morning so that we can set up and do our work ! As usual as a logistic leader i head to IT department to get the locker key. Then i set up the computer with Leon while waiting for other to come. Gerry come after a while then Kah Suit because she wake up due to her rushing the graphic progress until very late. Then i order them to start their work and i go check whether Jam is free. when i go find him, he is helping another group to solve their problem and he is kind of busy at moment. So in the end we didn't get his help for that day. So i go back to IIS and continue doing design work. And gerry and Leon was testing the projector.

Because our starting page can be trigger ad but inside the graphic still haven't finish so inside is like some random graphic.

i found out the paddle didn't suit the graphic so i create another one on the spot.

Then i go help out gerry and leon on setting up the projector. Since we shooting from far and the screen in out of proportion so i did some adjustment and ask Kah Suit to take down a photo so that we can check back the set up.

During the alpha as a leader i know that we basically not yet ready for it. So when the lecturer was here, we try to show our progress and what we are facing and how we are going to solve it. So, i start from showing our group graphic side, which appear the lecturer feel quite happy with the artstyle but not so happy with the progress. Then the contents and song that were found by leon was checked by Jazmi. And he advise us to have more the 5 different splash sound so it sound more real when we randomize the sound. After i present our story that are refined, Shahnim say that we can have a loop to the story which means the ending and the start can be connected. And try to add in different climax. She also gave us some advice like maybe add in some voice over or narrative to help people stick with the story while exploring the nature.

Shahnim are very worry about our group progress so he ask us to write down the hours we need to finish the work. And ask us to capture picture every time we work for progress record purposes. She call to visualize the data if it is too much for us please cut down the story plot.
After that we show the animation we have got with random graphic. Lecturer seems to be ok with coding. Jazmi give us some advices that we can add in different speed and stop point for user to interact with video or animation. 

Since the animation don't have much graphic, Shahnim asked our group to create a prototype show that we can test with the projector. 


So i used 30 to 45 minutes to create a sample for the group to test.

After letting the lecturer had a brief idea that how our interaction will be they ask us to cut down the story plot from 5 to 3 section, then ask to discuss where to cut down and how to refine the story plot and focus on three animal. So that we can finish our progress on time.

After that, I gathered my team for a meeting to discuss how we cut down the story. And tell them we need to progress our work faster. Although there are other assignment need to rush but we need manage our times. So i ask them to write how many time they need for progress their work. I also tell Kah Suit to voice out when she needed helps. During the meeting we confirm that we are aiming on 5 section of the story. First, intro as what we discuss last time, then Orang Utan, Rhino and Tiger ( the three most endanger animal in Malaysia) and end up with people planting and saving the forest. We proposes the idea to the lecturer again, we were good to process.

Then i saw a post on facebook that Fiona help us to book a classroom with Jam in 15/08/2013 to solve our coding problem.

As we show the size of the projector, I realise the screen size is abit too small. I try to place in different place to make the screen bigger but in the end we need put the projector behind the boat. So quite sketch out and stand and wonder Kah Suit is able to call her father to create out the stand and send to us together with the boat.

15/08/2013
After class, me and gerry go for lunch and then we meet Jam at MMLAB 1 to solve our coding problem. Jam bring his previous coding and teach us how to connect arduino with flash. It take around 30 to 45 minutes then we settle the coding problem and we are able to trigger the animation through arduino and flex sensor.

I also check on the progress of the design and ask whether there are anything i can help and Kah Suit will update me at Friday.

Week 6

For 2/08/2013 to 4/08/2013, the team member just slightly update on their progress since there are other assignment waiting for them to progress as well. But at 3/08/2013, Kah Suit update me that her cousin brother had the kinect camera and I asked her to borrow from her cousin brother.

5/08/2013-6/08/2013

During this progress week, logistic and content department have almost complete with their department work. So in order to make the progress faster, Me and leon are helping on graphic design but i will mostly taking part of the work since i asked leon to find the background music and sound effect. 

So during these two day, I focus on helping to push the graphic so that technical can start doing the animation.

We also discuss about the flow of story again to let Kah Suit had an idea what are the element she need in the design and how to layout the design. So we sit in a group and discuss about the storyline.

Opening we discuss that we are going to make the place look fantasy so it will be a twist in the end.

Second, in the orangutan's scene we will show the progress of people chopping down tree.

Third, in the rhino's scene there will be hunter killing animal for their skin.

Fourth, the tiger's is the jungle on fire.

Fifth, in the honey bear's scene will construction scene. 

Sixth, the jungle become city.

Seventh, Showing people go back to jungle planting in a piece of land.

And this is some design that i produce for the design department.

7/07/2013

As usual we went to class early. Before heading to class go to it department to get locker key. Reach class then set up the computer before we start our group work. We share our progress to our lecturer. Each of the department present our progress to the lecturer. As a leader i also present what are our team doing at the moment. We basically finish at Logistic and Content, so most of us will concentrating on the design. And we got the coding ready just need the second part of the coding which connect flash to arduino. We also present the storyline to lecturer again to let them check the idea we have refine.

Not much feedback we get from today tutorial but just asking us to make sure that we can make it on time. And just incase if the animation can't be finish what should we do.

I note these notes down myself just incase. After finish consultation i continue my work to create the design and helping gerry on some of the code.

I also asked Jazmi whether can i borrow the cable for kinect camera from him and double check with abu when can i get the kinect camera from her cousin. Kah Suit say will be next monday when she go find her cousin when she went to KL.

8/08/2013

Today right after class me and sue min and shireen rush of to Shah Alam to get arduino. Kind of wasted 30 minutes because we miss the junction twice and stuck in the traffic jam and in the end arrived there safely and get the arduino. Before i went to buy the arduino, i ask my team to stay at IIS to continue working because we are kind of behind the schedule. As soon as i went back to IIS, i show the Arduino to the group and ask Gerry the technical leader to test the device. After that, I check on their progress and continue help Kah Suit on graphic design. And today we just meet up for one hours then i dismiss the meeting and ask everyone do it at their place.

Week 5

I post on facebook asking whether my teammates can gather monday after to refine our storyline and discuss what we should during Alpha and beta. Beside that we need to create a stronger objective or vision/

30/07/2013

We meet up after class at my place. Base on the feedback we get from the presentation, we start to refine a bit of the story and start to create a new story plot. We divide the story into 7 sections. First, intro, then turtle section, orang utan section, rhino section, honey bear section, tiger section and how human can change the world section.

After settle one of the feedback, we move to other feedback. We discuss about how we going to prepare for our Alpha and beta test. For Alpha i suggest that we need to create a checklist to check our progress and some internet survey about what can we improve and is everything ready. For beta we will be creating some survey form and do some onside recording interview from the people that come visit our beta testing.

Next after Alpha and Beta we discuss how to make our installation stronger and more meaningful. I suggestion that we can use the idea of donation to help out of idea. All the money we collected can be donate to the animal protection association. The group kind of ok with the idea and we start to think how we come out something by using technical and i realise that we can use light sensor to create a donation box and when user put in donation it will trigger to start the animation and user can stay paddling through the animation and get the information. And when user see the animal they use their to hover on the animal and it will pop out some infographic about the animal. And we can use the software the Jazmi show to us in class to accomplish this idea.

After checking all feedback and fixing most of the problem for our proposal. I check on everyone work progress to find out what had they do. Gerry tell me he find the code. Kah Suit say he will start up some sketching and base on the gantt chart we should digitalizing the sketch already. Leon is doing very well. He is the one that have the faster progress. Me myself report my progress as well. I tell my team that IIS had been book equipment have be book as well. In our proposal, we propose that maybe we will be using kinect camera so i kind ask the team members whether they got friend or cousin that had xbox kinect camera and ask them to find out and let me know. Me myself also will ask from friend as well. And for arduino i had already check online where is their shop and planning to go get the product by this week so technical can have the physical product to test with. 

Kah Suit ask me for the design so that her father to start to build the boat. I copy the files and send it to her as soon i done some refinement .

After the meeting we try find some images and did some digital design as a reference to show the lecturer our progress.

So I start up helping design to find references of animal images. I also ask Kah Suit please tell what we can help her. But during that moment she just call find references. I also help her to create some vector design as well but is not really the style she wanted. So i ask her to show a reference of what she want so i can trace it for her.

Gerry the technical leader had find the coding to trigger the animation by using Actionscript 3 and we tested out by using simple box and the element in the animation. Using clicking as paddle to play the animation.

31/07/2013

During the class we propose our new idea to lecturers during the class and tutorial section to update what are our group progress. We tell our new story flow and how trigger the installation and our group objective and vision.

After finish sharing our idea, we straight away get feedback from the lecturer. Asking whether can finish on time when there are so many element that we need to create and can we explain more detail in the different section and what happen in the section. And when the lecturer heard that we need to deal with donation and money. They ask us to be careful and if really want to do donation we need to find where is the place to donate the money. I am holder for diploma of event and been an intern before so i kind of know the progress when come to handling money and donation and we need to get some permit. And i actually think about this problem, because we are doing this interactive installation just as a prototype so that we can help WWF for future exhibition and so-on. So for the donation we create a fake coin when user try it during the exhibition.

As jazmi say that the animal we use can be more base on Malaysia endanger animal. And our intro is we paddle from sea to river and Jazmi say that the idea is very weird and we mind think of cutting down some animal just focus on few.

Then we show some of our design and our technical to lecturer, for the section no much comment but calling us to progress our work faster because there not much time left.

After the tutorial we continue on doing some design so the animation can start early and base on the feedback we get we try find out some solution. So i order my team to start their work earlier on their work. I also ask the content leader and the team to find some information about endanger animal in Malaysia. At the mean time, I asked whether other group wanted to buy and turn out wilson group also using arduino and i told them the location and discuss with Sue min when can we go together to get the arduino. We planned to go at 8 August to get the equipment right after we finish our class.

Then i continue back to my team and discuss and do some design and animation and this what i did during and after the class.

I also found some animal images for referencing
