Week 5 (presentation)

24/07/2013

Today is the presentation day. I wake up early to double check on our proposal that me and my group finished a few hours ago. As a leader i need double confirm that everything in the correct arrangement and check if anything is less in the proposal and presentation slide.

I ask my teammates to gather at my place at 10 and turn up some of them were late but it was ok since yesterday we all did the proposal till very late. I place some images into the slide and export it out powerpoint from google document. Then we go to have lunch before we start our rehearsal. We gather in class then start to plan how to present the slide.

As a leader i start with introduction and my logical section then other also focus on their own department.

Everything went kind of what we plan in the presentation, no major problem during the presentation. But during the Q&A Leon and Me answer most of the question. And during the presentation this is some of the feedback that we get from the lecturer.


Lecturer and Friends’s Feedback
- We need to show everything including story and panel into the slide to show how the story flow
- Create more awareness to enhance the feeling (due to the presentation slide the listener cannot get the feeling that the story are trying to present)
- Think of why our group propose kayaking for example like easy to navigate / technical wise / direction 
- When paddle the kayang it will more and when move is it synchronizing with the video
- How to evaluate the work? Using Alpha and Beta test and from the test what information are you seeking?
- Beside putting in the story plot try to elaborate more on the storyline.

After writing all the note, i call the group to meet up for a while to discuss about what we can improve and what we should add in the slide and proposal and we decide to meet up and fix the problem and slide. Then i tell them to go back and rest since everyone are not in the condition is hard to come out solution.

Week4 part 2

21/07/2013 (night) until 22/07/2013
Due to my team spend too much time on doing research and getting information and refining idea. We end up only two day to create the proposal. As usually we gather and my place after class. I open google document and distribute part for different member to incharge of. And some we did it as group.

For Group - Objective, story plot, concept, hypothesis, problem identified, propose solution
Graphic - Find art style and benchmark, sketches, mock up UI
Content - Find animal information
Logistic - Floor plan, Gantt Chart, Budget and Boat Mock-up
Technical - Platform and coding, Use case and flow chart

First, we focus on the topic that we can all type as a group since we are using google document. Everyone come out idea for our project objective and we discuss how create the flow and content for the proposal. First, we create our project objective, then we move up to concept, hypothesis.

23/07/2013 (after class) - 24/07/2013 (morning)
We based on the research that we found and problem that the nature is facing and find out what our installation can help solve the problem. Then, we propose our solution. It took us about 2-3 hours to complete this section because during this section we come out different idea and me and our group are trying to find the best to put in the proposal. Some of idea are great but is abit too impossible so when this happen the team member and i will voice out for suggestion.

After we finish intro part, i ask all the team leader including me to focus on our job scope. I am the logistic leader so i need to come out with floorplan,budget and boat mock up. Since the gantt chart i had already create before i just need to do some adjustment. After the i come out with a brand new flow plan and measurement for the boat and projection.

After that i supposedly need to come out the budget for our installation but the technical haven't confirm on the equipment yet so i start to help technical on creating the flow chart and use chart in Google document . 
Uses Case
I created the symbol for the uses case and me and gerry start discuss how to create since this is the first we create an uses case diagram so i find some reference in google and discuss with Leon and Gerry and refine a few time to make sure everything is correct. Then we move to the flow chart. The flow chart diagram is created by Gerry and i help to double confirm whether everything is the right position and check whether the flow is correct and there are some refinement so we discuss and change the chart. 

Since we are doing something the deal with nature and animal, so we did some our research base of WWF. For that we kind of lost focus on what to focus since there are so many things in the forest so I suggested that we only focus on how human destroy and forest and what are the endanger animal. I downloaded some application that are created by WWF so the Leon can use do some references from it .

This application turn out very useful. We find out the content show the cause to endanger animal and the analysis of animal and the number of animal from year to year. So the Leon can continue on more detail research from internet. 

After Gerry are done with the flowchart , we start discuss on what equipment that we need and what kind of equipment that we can get from the college. After a short discussion, i started to create budget for our installation.

After i finish my budget i think almost roughly about 11-12 oclock midnight. So i order i team to take a break. Me and Gerry went out to buy some snack and drink for the team. After a 20 minutes break we continue back our work. 

We continue to think out the storyline so we can do the story plot. Base on the research that leon found and some other we collected previous week. We discuss and combine our idea and we create the story plot. After we create our story plot on a piece of paper, me gerry and leon start to create the soft copy in google docs. And Kah Suit base on story plot and start to design the graphic.

I help kah suit to find art reference and create some design. Kah Suit come out with a some kind of idea base a reference  she find. She want to create like for different section will come out a entrance which is an abstract face of the endanger animal font by the element in a forest.
Base on the reference i come out with some sketches to help Kah Suit. I start to sketch on a paper first then i trace with tablet in photoshop.

While we are doing these, it is kind of late so i order those that have finish their part to go back and rest. And meet up at my place at tomorrow 10am and i started to create the powerpoint slide while Kah Suit is creating the our installation art style. I create the slide on the Google Docs so everyone can double when they wake another morning.

 After i finish compiling the files for the proposal and powerpoint is already around 2 to 3 am. 
Kah Suit still creating the design during that time. I wanted to wait for her to finish but she ask me to go sleep and she will add in the image to slide and proposal after she finish the graphic. I went to sleep so i can wake up early to double check the slide and proposal.


I wake up early to check on the document and files. The export out the files for google and did some adjustment on the layout and create the content for the proposal. When Kah Suit arrived we discuss about art style and graphic so i can rearrange the position and page. After everything is compile nicely. We start to discuss about the presentation part. I distribute the slide according their leader position. After that we try to rehearsal before the presentation in college.

Week 4 part 1

17/07/2013
Before the consultation start, we get the form to book the working time slot in IIS room. I discuss with the members and write down the date we want to book the IIS room. I also collect the equipment booking list from lecturer to write down what we want to book for our installation.

Today we share the idea of our group to the lecturer and tell them what is our job scope. And these are the feedback we get back after the consultation. As a leader during the consultation mostly i am the representative to answer and ask question. Sometime my member will help too.

What we get from the lecturer is we need more relevant references. Try use more relevant idea so that we can have a quick view of what ourselves can do compare to the outer world.

Beside that, there are objects to that our team need to concentrate on while creating the proposal.

When you have the content theme, you must have the context

As for artstyle and logistic
- Adopt learning from interior design on how to decorate and design the installation
- Logistic, doing with space deign
- Find proper place for wiring.

From the feedback and consult of the lecturer, i gather my group mates again to form a short meeting so that everyone can get a rough idea what the lecturer just say and what we need to do. So i distribute the workload to everyone. I order the everyone to find the interactive installation in either Malaysia or others country. And for content leader, I tell him to find more information about the endanger species in Malaysia. For Technical, I tell to find the coding to trigger Arduino, For design, I tell the leader to start finding some relevant art style that she feel confident and able to bring out the feeling and For logistic, i need to design the kayak and the flow plan to attract user and find the proper way to place all the wires. And after Jazmi saw my boat floor plan he say that the space needed is a bit to big, he ask me to find out the space of our spot and find whether can fit the boat as soon as possible so that we can change the floor plan as soon as possible. And he call us to check the projection whether it will be too small from the distance we have. As we show the gantt chart there are not much problem with it but want us to make sure we follow the time slot.

So i went back and start to find out what are the best solution to create the console and floor plan.


18/07/2013
Today after class, i go together with other group team member to IIS to measure the layout and space that we can use equally for each group installation. I bring my measuring tape to measure the place and write down the measurement and the power supply area so that i can create the floor plan for my group installation.  And i found out that our boat width is too big when we put in the paddles so i need to discuss with my group and come out and new plan.


Besides that i also pass up the equipment application form to Fiona to book our equipment.

I start to search only where to get the material and thing that we need to do. And i also ask that if Kah Suit's father can help sponsor us with wooden boat since Kah Suit's father own a wood factory. So it will help cut down the budget.

21/07/2013
First we need to solve the problem of the console first, so before meeting i came out with one solution and base on the research i do, there is some boat that are control by one paddle and the end of the boat and since we still got place behind the boat we can adjust the paddle to end of the boat. And all the member agree on the action. So i continue to create a sketch and design on when the paddle should be placed.

Week 3

03/07/2013
As usual after class, i gather my group at my place to have a meeting. The reason that i like to gather every member to gather at my place to meeting is to let everybody to participate in this project and i don't want any miscommunication during the meeting. Base on my experience in my diploma year, when we use social network to meeting there always some miscommunication that will happen.

So during the meeting, we discuss what are we going to propose in our proposal so that we can get some comment from our lecturer for the next meeting. Although there are a lot information gather but our group had no idea what is the best installation art that we can produce.

Everyone of group mates give some ideas, but end up something either not relevant or is about our capability. During the meeting, i propose my idea on WWF. I suggested that we can try focus on this topic and find out what are problem that WWF are trying to solve and what the problem they are facing so base on the topic we can think out of some interest installation and all group mates agree on it.

After knowing which and where to focus, our group concentrate on the main topic and find out what had Malaysia WWF are doing recently and what are the project and problem they are facing. And base on the event they organise, are the anything that we can use it to upgrade or we can create an interactive installation to help them. After gather all the information, we share it online to other group mates so they can have a view before the next meeting.

As usual after class, we gather and start our meeting on the projection. We continue with where we ended last week. Other group member also share out what they find and their rough idea.

I propose my idea as a arcade station for people to play. But the arcade station is actually a machine for people to participate of donating money and get the information of WWF. That is my rough idea after doing the research. I suggest we can do something for use to control an animation and by control some source of console, the user will feel participant and will feel more excited while interact with the installation.

At first , some of the group mates don't really agree on the idea but after some explanation and the execution. Our group agree on the idea and start give suggestion and idea to make the idea even stronger and interesting.

11/07/2013 - 16/07/2013
During the week, our group came out with different idea for our interactive installation project.  I came out with the idea that we can use the idea of arcade to create a donation machine. And during the game, user can get information like kinds of endanger animal and what are the course and how to prevent to become worse and our members were happy with the idea.

Our group propose fews method to become the console for the installation like car, walking and even controller. But if we do all this method our programming part may don't have the capability of finish the programming and animation part. So Leon give a very good idea of using river, because we can use the flow of river to force the user on going one path. And i give the idea of using kayak.

After doing discussion and consideration, we planned to create something trigger by kayak.
As a leader we need to understand what are thing that we need to be concern of so we come out a list of thing that we may need to double check to confirm the project is possible.

For Design,
- We need to know how to make progressing front movement animation.
For Interaction,
- We planned that the users can stop at some point and interact with the installation by user kinect or infrared.
For Logistic
- We need to know where and how to hide the camera and wires.
For Coding
- We need to find the coding and solution for kayak to move forward and if possible, left and right.
For Content,
- We need more information about the endangered animal species in Malaysia and what the causes.

For the boat, we planned to use and get a set of arduino and we need to find out how to trigger the controller, and what sensor should we use:
- flex sensor
- magnet sensor
And as logistic leader i need find out where to get the arduino set.

We start to do research on environmental design and installation.We planned another back up plan which is using swan boat instead of kayak.

The content and artstyle of our installation will be currently setted as :
- animal silhouette made from rubbish
- animals, river and forest.

I start to layout some idea to have some rough idea how the placement and around what size can we use for the installation. And this is what i done and share to my groupmate for discussion.

I created a mini kayak that can fit a person to sit and control the pedal to control the animation. But after some discussion with member they kind of happy with the layout and wanted to place in some design around the boat to make feel more like forest.  But as we further discuss, we realised that the seat and the layout may make the user uncomfortable so i suggest that instead of using kayak we can use wooden boat. Then i straight away sketch out the boat.

I spend 3 hours try to roughly digitalise and create a rough measurement floorplan of boat so that i can show to the lecturer during the next consultation. I did it by use illustrator.

Week 2

After discuss with our lecturer, we found out that:
We need to think about the creative aspect for our installation. Find out the objective and what are the main problem we are trying to solve. We need to know our capability of finishing the installation and what are the devices that we can apply and capable to use. Our group were thinking that  it is good for use to create something that are outstanding and non-repeated ideas.

Our lecturer are very concern on our capability of finish the project time. So before everything start, as a leader I start with creating the project gantt chart to keep track on our work. From there i learned how to organise and distribute job to every member with the reasonable time slot.




We get some references from our lecturer where to get the latest update on new application trends and i had join the Facebook group to get more information from the professional. Beside that, we also need think in different perspective.

And from what that feedback we get from the lecturer, we started to discuss which area that we want to focus on and what are thing that we are able to use to create this project. So I ask my group mates to continue find out more sources that available from the net and what are the problem that we are able to solve but creating a creative installation. 


So basically for this week, me and my group mates still concentrate on researching and forming new ideas out from the research.
